Citation Helper

I liked Citation Builder the best, because it was user friendly and would not allow them to enter information until they had chosen what type of source they were citing.

I did not like Citation Machine, because it was not visually appealing and gave 3 long steps that my kids would skip over.

EasyBib was decent, but my students would be overwhelmed by the drop down taps.  For example, they don’t know what a dissertation is, and they would get confused if they didn’t immediately see their type of source.

KnightCite was also good, but my concern is that it allows them to enter information without choosing which type of source they are citing.  They would start entering information for the default, the book, even if they were citing a website.

My Greatest Technology Success So Far

In my English 9 class, I was struggling to come up with a good project to use during our To Kill a Mockingbird unit.  I knew I didn’t want to spend the whole unit reading, and that I wanted the students to gain some background information on the 1930′s era.  So, I talked with our media center specialist, and we came up with an activity where students would work in groups to create presentations on their particular topic.  The topics were different areas of 1930s culture, including music, fashion, and a few individual incidents (like the Scottsboro Boys story).  They were able to choose a topic they wanted, and ran with it.  They researched on the Internet, using the databases; then, they created PowerPoint presentations on their topic, which they later gave to the class.  They learned a lot and had a good time doing it.  It was really a great success.  I am also in the process of planning a similar thing for my sophomores with  The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn.
